Lachen is a town in the North Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim. It situated at an altitude of 2,750 meters. The name Lachen is otherwise also known as "big pass." The city promoted as a tourist destination by the Sikkim government. The town forms the base of the Chopta Valley and the Gurudongmar Lake. An annual yak race, Thangu is held here in the summer.
Unlike other places in India, Lachen has a unique form of local self-government called "Dzumsa." Each household is a member of this traditional administrative system, the institution responsible for conducting and organizing activities within the village.
The Lachen Valley has almost everything a traveler could desire: a land of fairs and festivals, snow-capped mountains, lakes, a valley of flora, fauna, and vibrant local culture. A tour of Lachen Monastery and the Women's Handicrafts Center to see the weaving of traditional carpets & blankets will render insight into the local way of life here.
Perhaps take a stunning mountain drive along the Tibetan Plateau as a day tour from Gurdwara, and Cho Lamu can go. Lachen. Surrounded by icy plains at an altitude of 17,100 feet, the sacred Gurudongmar Lake is something that would not dare to visit Sikkim.
One can stay overnight in Thangue, which is 30 km from Lachen. During monsoon and summer, the entire place decorated with flowers of all kinds. The relatively unexplored and untouched Chopta Valley lies to the north of Lachen.
Rich in alpine vegetation and rhododendrons, breathtaking lakes and rivers add to the beauty of the Chopta Valley. A favorite spot with nature lovers, Chopta is also famous for its many monuments of historical and religious importance.
Wildlife enthusiasts can see rare species of plants, animals, and birds in the Chopta Valley. Bird watching is an admired activity, and the area is ideal for trekking and other adventure sports.
Lachen located at an altitude of 8838 feet, about 129 km from Gangtok. The weather appears overtime at this high-altitude place: in spring and monsoon, the galleys are painted with many flowers, bathed in the glorious weather of autumn and the winter of snow-covered fairy tales.
Lachen is about 129 kilometers from the capital Gangtok and can reach via a six-hour road trip. A short two-day trekking route also connects the Yumthang Valley to Lachen. It has a population of about 1,000. Lachen has its system of regulation and rules known as Dzmasa. The chiefs of Dzumsa are known as Pipon and Gyenbos.
To the north is the city of Thangu, where daytime temperatures range from 4 to 12 degrees Celsius
(40 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit), even in June and July.
Gurudongmar Lake can be reached from Lachen; which is the sacred lake of the Great Himalayan region.
Lachen is connected to many routes in India. The most convenient ways to travel to Lachen are by air, rail, and road.
Lachen does not have a flight, train, or bus connectivity. But it is connected by road, so you can drive by yourself to reach a taxi, or even if you are looking for an adventure!
On arrival at NJP Railway Station / (IXB) Bagdogra Airport, (500Ft / 150Mts) will be met by our office Executive who will assist you to board your vehicle to Gangtok (5500 Ft /1677 Mts, 130 Kms / 04 to 05 Hrs). Check in and over night at Hotel.

All applicable Transfers & Sightseeing by NON AC vehicle which will not be at disposal and will be exclusively used for the group as per the itinerary only (on point to point basis).
